Actually the OP should be able to use any of the three systems mentioned to
do the cross build.  Yes the OP needs to build the target compiler for the host
system he uses.  To do that you just specify the --target and not --host or
--build.

The to build the package to host for linux you use --host to specify the linux
host and the autotools are supposed to figure out the system.

Note you will need the headers and libraries for the cross host system in the
target build system.  It is not easy and as has been suggested you need to look
for cross platform examples.
